Child Rearing, Am I wrong?

I overheard two women talking today and, one asked the other "what is wrong with the kids these days?" I did not say anything while I watched her child throw a fit on the floor and she kept asking the child "do you want another candy or something?" As they continued on their way, I looked at them and then thought to myself: Hmmm, what is wrong with the kids these days? My only conclusion is the following:

1. You can't spank your child for fear of CPS being called.
2. We took Corporal Punishment out of the schools.
3. Timeout (enough said on this one.)
4. Kids having kids (although this has always been a problem.) Grandmother at 35.
5. Trying to keep up with the Jone's, when you can't afford to. Basically spoiling the kids.
6. Doing everything for them, after a certain age (cleaning their room, no chores, etc.)
7. Parents Complaining that there are things that should not be taught by the school, yet they are not teaching it in the home (guess where they are learning it people, from other kids that have not been given the proper information.)

Yes, Television, movies, sports figures, Actors/Actresses, and Musicians are contributing factor when raising children. But, you are the parent and if you are doing your job 9/10 those factors are irrelevant or have very little influence on the child. I was spanked as a child (I said spanked, not beaten.) I had chores around the house and I was responsible for keeping my room clean. And at a certain age I was even taught to cook so that every once in a while if need I could cook either for myself or the family. I did not get everything I wanted, but I had everything I needed. And, if I messed up in school, The principle got out the paddle and then when I got home my mom or grandmother got out the switch, wait, I meant I had to go get the switch that they were going to use.

The parents goal is to make sure that their kid has all the basics, food, clothing, shelter, proper education and, loving parents. And, if along the way you can afford to give them some things out side of the basics that is fine as long as there is no excess. I am sorry even if I can afford it, there is no reason for my child to have laptop, Desktop, iPad, 30" HD T.V, Wii, etc. (you get my point) on their room. And, when did we stop making our kids go outside and play, interact with other kids, get some exercise. It bad enough our school are cutting most of the programs that we enjoyed when we were kids (gym, music, art, etc.) now they aren't even doing these things at home.

Let me conclude with this,
No,  I do not have children and, I know people say every day that you don't know how to raise kids until you have them. Or, you don't know what you will do until you actually have children of your own. My reply to that is as follows: I have held the same view on child rearing since I was in High School, ask my public speaking teacher, if he's still around. But, more importantly that excuse can be used for almost anything. I have been a child, I have been around children, and I have seen enough poor parenting to know that if you are given the core values needed to be a productive and contributing human being. You will pass those traits on to your children. When they say that most of, if not all of what you learn as a child carries over into adulthood it is true. If you spoil a child, do not provide boundaries or, discipline; then more than likely you will produce an adult that does not function well in a society that requires you to know what the boundaries are and to have some discipline.

DADT and MCMJ its 2010 Get with it.

As many of you know the Federal Courts have said that DADT (Don't Ask, Don't Tell) is Unconstitutional and has issued an injunction. President Obama appears to be leaning toward appealing this ruling even though he himself has stated that DADT was/is an unfair and outdated policy. Below is the article discussing this issue and, a Response from one reader that I think sums this whole issue up.

Reader "Rorschach" said in response to the above article.
The most dangerous enemy of any military force isn’t the one you face in the field, but the divisive psychology of dissent and distrust which have to be actively eradicated at every level down to a personal one. The military requires personal dedication and devotion to discipline, duty, focus, professionalism and trust. These have to be the buzzwords and ideas that have to be actively promoted in a military culture. No matter what culture you come from or what cultural beliefs you adhere to, those beliefs need to be left at the door and a military culture and mindset have to be adopted. You have to know and trust that the guy next to you has your back, and he has to be able to trust you to do the same in return when the rubber meets the road. This requires a fraternal mindset of brotherhood and that’s how you have to regard each other. If you’re distracted worrying about whether the guy next to you is wearing blue or pink underwear, guess who’s at fault? Here’s a hint. It’s not him. He’s probably doing his job. You’re the one who needs to check yourself and figure out where your mind is at, get your head in the game and on the task at hand. Worry about your job and not his. If you let yourself become that distracted and worried then you’re the weak link that others need to worry about, and anybody who uses the military culture as a platform to air and voice their dissent are only spreading a disease that will eat a unit like cancer from the inside out. Anybody who actively promotes laying down on the job as a form of protest to air their personal grievances and objections or incites others to do the same is guilty of dereliction of duty at the very least. Anybody who knows anything about the UCMJ knows the military is not a democracy. If you want to protest, do everyone a favor and leave. It is every service members duty to have each other’s back. If you wouldn’t treat your family the way you treat another service member, you need to stop and think about it because they have to be able to trust you the same way. One day your life might depend on that “@#$%” or “queer” you’re so worried about. This doesn’t even require intelligence. It should be common sense.

Thought Provoking Letter to Doctor Laura

Why Can't I Own a Canadian?

October 2002

Dr. Laura Schlesinger is a radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a east coast resident, which was posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them:

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted fan,
Jim

Save Money By Spending Cash

From Yahoo:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100726/lf_nm_life/us_usa_fed_wealthtransfer

I think that the only way to resolve the matter is as follows:

CC companies must have a set fee it charges Merchants and, the merchant can program those fee into their system. And, customers that choose to use their card would get a prompt that says "Your Card Carrier charges xyz fees for processing cc charges and you are responsible for those fees. Do you accept these charges?" it would be similar to ATM fees (probably much less though, depending on how much you spend) that banks charge people that get cash advances or money from a bank they don't have an account with. This should (no promises though) stop Merchants from having to raising prices because they no longer bare the burden of these fees.

I can see it now...Credit card balances in this country (U.S.) would drop dramatically because people would began to see some of the true cost of using a credit card. And, hopefully go back to using good old American cash.

Down and out but trying to keep my head up.

Some of you may not know this but I am now on Day 751 without full time permanent employment. I am at a lost right now because I have drained the savings, there is no more unemployment benefits, and this is the first month since I became unemployed that I have may not be able to pay most of my bills. I did manage rent for another month thanks to the help of a friend so, I won't default on my lease yet.

Lucky for me I only have 2 months left on this lease so, if I can make it until then I will not default. The question then is what do I do with my other bills and where do I go from here if I can't find full time permanent employment. I have always believed in paying my own bills and, have never relied on any else to support me since I have lived on my own (almost 15 years.)

This is the first time since this began that I have really been at a loss, I could file bankruptcy but, as I said I believe in paying for the bill that I have created. Not only that, but bankruptcy would kill my credit score which I have worked very hard to keep in the high range. Anyway, its time to go beat the pavement again and see what if any work is out their.

God Bless!
Yay for Argentina:

That's the beauty of this country, You do have the right to say what you feel about Gays just like everyone has the right to say what feels about religion. The Point is that there are somethings that the government just can't and shouldn't be regulating. It amazes me how all I here from a lot of "Right Wing Conservative" is that we need less government but, its ok for the federal and some state governments to offer tax breaks to married couples and discriminate against a whole group of people because those people aren't allow (by law) in many states to get married.

Lets look back in History, remember when interracial couples could not get married? It was considered by some against Gods will to mix the races, guess what It did not rain fire and brimstone when in 1967 those law were stricken from the books by the US Supreme Court.

All the LGBT community want is fair and equal rights not special rights, equal right. You don't have to like, want to be friends with, nor accept the LGBT community THAT IS YOUR RIGHT and YOU CAN SAY AS MUCH. But, no government has the right to regulate something as personal as the marriage between two consenting adults.
